Grants for Japan (Monbukagakusho, JSPS)
Monbukagakusho Grant
In the framework of the bilateral Monbukagakusho Grant Japanese and Austrian students and graduates can apply for stays of up to two years in the other country. The Japanese candidates are selected by an Austrian-Japanese commission in Japan and nominated to the ICM. The grant is awarded by the ICM (Application form - Download).
Austrian candidates are also selected by an Austrian-Japanese commission in Austria and nominated to the Japanese ministry (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). The grant is awarded by Japan (Application form - Download).
With the grant the foundation for a future scientific cooperation between Austria and Japan is to be laid.

JSPS Grants
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science awards grants for Japan for young scientists and university teachers at Austrian universities. The duration of the grants is between 2 weeks and 2 years. The ICM acts as a counterpart institution and as a nominating authority for the following grants:
- JSPS Grant of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Scientists (Short Term)
- JSPS Grant of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for young Scientists (Long Term)
- JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers)
On behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research (BMWF) the ICM awards grants to Japanese scientists who are selected and nominated by JSPS in the framework of the bilateral programmes JSPS Grant of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Scientists (Short Term) and JSPS Grant of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for young Scientists (Long Term).
