Academies for midwifery (Hebammenakademien) provide vocational education and training and entitle their graduates to work as midwives ( Hebamme) (completion: diploma examination). After the secondary school leaving examination ( Reifeprüfung), the programme takes three years.

> Programme for cardio-technicians
Education and training for cardio-technicians is provided in in-service courses within the framework of employment with a hospital and entitles the graduates to work as qualified cardio-technicians ( Diplomierte Kardiotechnikerin/Diplomierter Kardiotechniker) (completion: diploma examination). Theoretical knowledge is mainly acquired through self-study supervised by a tutor. Based on completed training for radiological technologists, biomedical scientists or intensive care or anaesthetic nursing, training takes 18 months and is offered at four sites in Austria.
