International Presentation of the Higher Education Location Austria

In the autumn of 2002 a working group for the presentation of the higher education location Austria was constituted in Austria under the leadership of the OeAD. Following this the OeAD worked out a plan for higher education marketing in Austria.

This plan was approved by the Austrian Rectors’ Conference, the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, Austria, the steering committee of the teacher training colleges and the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (BMBWK) and the OeAD was commissioned with the carrying out of relevant measures.

Since then the carrying out of the Austrian higher education marketing has continuously been evaluated and further developed and all stakeholders have renewed the commissioning of the OeAD. In 2012 the ÖPUK, the representative of the Austrian private universities, also joined the working group.

In 2011 a big reorientation process was started in the framework of the higher education marketing working group. The aim was to develop an up-to-date image which is geared towards emphasising the strengths of the location. In working groups led by the OeAD key messages, claims and goals were discussed, common things were emphasised but room for diversity was also made allowance for. This process resulted in the commissioning of the agency bader&team with the design and implementation of our new international presentation of the Austrian higher education location, which has been successfully presented in all media and at education fairs since 2012.

Goals

The goals of a joint presentation of the higher education location Austria are:

  • To make Austria known as an attractive area for studying and research and to be present on an international level.
  • Exchange of students
As many Austrian students as possible should be given the chance to spend a study period abroad. This is only possible if adequate international contacts and networks exist and if international students are admitted and educated at our institutions. The principle of reciprocity guarantees Austrian students sufficient possibilities for spending a study period abroad.
  • Recruiting of international students
In addition to exchanges the recruiting of international students is also one of the aims of the planned activities. Internationalisation “at home” and “international classrooms” are an enrichment for our educational institutions and allow students who themselves are not able to take part in an exchange programme to gain international experience.

With the publication of information brochures, which are updated every year (e.g. “Study Guide”, “Higher Education Institutions Guide”), and the attendance of international education fairs in Asia, America and Europe (e.g.: APAIE, NAFSA, EAIE, EHEF, …) we try not only to provide information about Austria but also to present an attractive and up-to-date picture of Austria as location for higher education.
