Studienreise South-East Asia 2012 - Thailand, Laos

Programm: Für ihre 4-wöchige Studienreise nach Thailand und Laos vergibt die Wiener Gesellschaft für Südostasienwissenschaften (SEAS) ein Kontingent an Restplätzen zum reduzierten Teilnahmepreis. Die Studienreise führt die TeilnehmerInnen von Bangkok und Pattaya über Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, und Chiang Khong bis nach Houay Xay, Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng und Vientiane, die Hauptstadt Laos. Begleitet werden die Studierenden dabei von erfahrenen ReferentInnen aus Österreich und Thailand.
Auf der Programmliste steht eine breite Auswahl an multidisziplinären Seminareinheiten und Vorlesungen zu Themen wie Sustainable Development, Ecotourism oder der politischen Situation in Thailand. ExpertInnen aus NGOs und Wissenschaft vor Ort ermöglichen einen Blick hinter die Kulissen. Individuelle und begleitete Forschungsprojekte und –übungen lassen die TeilnehmerInnen erste Erfahrungen in Feldforschung und Methodologie sammeln. Abgerundet wird die Reise durch ein reichhaltiges Kulturprogramm.
Die kleine Anzahl der Teilnehmer/innen ermöglicht dabei eine intensive Betreuung, sowie maximalen Lernerfolg und Erfahrungsgewinn.
Die Studienreise findet von 15. Juli bis 14. August 2012 statt. Die Programmsprache ist Englisch. Anmeldungen sind noch bis Freitag, 25. Mai 2012, zu einem um EUR 100,- reduzierten Teilnahmepreis möglich.

Marie Jahoda Summer School of Sociology 2012 - Vienna

Summerschool 2012 on Doctoral Education - Vienna

Programme: This Summer Institute on Doctoral Education provides participants with an opportunity to explore critically the various aspects associated with the changing nature of advanced research degrees in various institutional and national contexts. Participants will gain an in depth understanding of 1. the different traditions to doctoral education, in particular those of Europe, North America, and middle Eastern countries; 2. tensions between supply of and demand for graduates; 3. trends toward massification of doctoral education in relation to longstanding traditions and pressures to reform; 4. the impact of international higher education and the growing mobility of students and faculty on doctoral education.
The focus of this Institute will be to explore the ways in which geopolitical formations (e.g., the emergence of the EU higher education space and the Bologna process) and related funding and regulatory mechanisms have reshaped the meanings attached to doctoral education and to doctoral work in relation to larger regional and international processes. Also, we will explore the emergence of new forms of doctoral programs, either as professional degrees or as online and distance-based ones, within expanding global markets in the fields of higher education. The aim is to bring together researchers and graduate students to explore select t aspects of doctoral education, in view of publishing and edited volume.
Participants: 20 places for current doctoral students with 2 places reserved for masters students and 2 places reserved for post-doctoral students/junior faculty

International Social Summer Science School - Ukraine

Programme: The Fourth International Social Science Summer School in Ukraine will provide a unique forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest research on violence issues, involving specialists of the topic, as well as young promising researchers.
The Summer School is designed to be interdisciplinary and international. Participants are expected to present their own work and to participate in group discussions. The School’s program consists of lectures, panel presentations and discussions, as well field trips within the region, followed by discussion sessions.
Participants: The Summer School is open to PhD students (or students enrolled in a kandidat nauk program) and young researchers (up to six years removed from their PhD or kandidat nauk degree). Empirically grounded proposals are particularly welcomed.
The working language of the Summer School will be English, and it is important that prospective participants have a good knowledge of this language.
The selection committee will select candidates based on their responses to this Call for Proposals. The selected candidates will be advised before the end of May.
Tuition fee: There is no program fee. Local transportation from/to Kyiv, accommodation, meals, classes, lectures, seminars and excursions are provided by the organizers and free of charge. The participants or their universities should only pay the travel expenses from the participant's country to Kyiv.

Programm: In Kooperation mit dem Chinazentrum der Universität Salzburg veranstaltet das Eurasia-Pacific Uninet jährlich die "Chinese- Austrian- EU Summerschool" für Student/innen von chinesischen Partneruniversitäten. Die Teilnehmer/innen aus unterschiedlichen Fachrichtungen haben dabei die Gelegenheit Österreich (Salzburg und Wien) sowie europäische Städte (Brüssel, Antwerpen, Paris, Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Venedig) zu bereisen und näher kennenzulernen.
Expertenvorträge am EU-Parlament, der Europäischen Kommission, beim Europäischen Rat, im Außenministerium sowie Vorlesungen an der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien sowie an der Universität Salzburg sollen das Verständnis für die europäische Kultur und das Know-how im Bereich österreichischer Geschichte und Literatur, Politik und Recht sowie Wirtschaft bis hin zu Musik erweitern. Besuche bei den Vereinten Nationen, dem Musikverein oder Schloss Schönbrunn runden das Programm ab und garantieren eindrückliche und vielseitige Erfahrungen.

Summer School "China Know-How 2012" - China

Course A "Modern China Studies for Scientists and Economists"
Programme: The "China Know-How" Summer Schools are intensive summer programs in the People’s Republic of China, organized annually by Eurasia-Pacific Uninet in cooperation with the China Studies Center of the University of Salzburg. Target audiences are students and young scientists from Austrian or European universities and other institutes of higher education, as well as employees from international companies. Course A of China Know-How entitled "Modern China Studies for Scientists and Economists" focuses on topics such as Economics, Politics, Law, Culture and Cross-Cultural Management in Modern China. The units are conducted in English at the prestigious Peking University, Beijing, and Fudan University, Shanghai, and use a variety of modules. In addition, seminars by experts and visits to joint-ventures companies are included in this program.
Costs: approx. € 1900 (including the program fees of the Chinese universities and for the accompanying program, the accommodation in 4 or 5 star hotels, a train ride between Beijing and Shanghai, the organization fee and a reserve for unforeseen events and currency fluctuations. In addition, the flight costs will arise. Participants shall book the flights individually with the help of the organizer.

Die tschechischen Universitäten bieten drei- bis vierwöchige Intensivkurse des Tschechischen sog. Internationale Sommeruniversität an der Ben-Gurion Universität des Negev - Israel

Program: Die internationale Sommeruniversität in Beer Sheva ist das einzige akademische Programm an einer israelischen Universität, welches explizit für deutschsprachige Student/innen konzipiert wurde.
Der Hochschulferienkurs soll interessierten deutschsprachigen Studenten/innen aus Deutschland, Österreich, der Schweiz und anderen europäischen Ländern die Gelegenheit bieten, vor Ort in Beer Sheva die hebräische Sprache zu erlernen und Lehrveranstaltungen israelischer und ausländischer DozentInnen in den Fächern Jüdische Studien und Israelwissenschaften zu besuchen.
Der sechswöchige Kurs setzt sich aus drei Teilen zusammen: einem intensiven Hebräischkurs (vormittags), einem akademischen Rahmenprogramm (nachmittags und abends) und wöchentlichen Studienausflügen bzw. Exkursionen (freitags).

Program: European Studies/German Language Courses
The International Summer Program 2012 offers four weeks of European Studies and intercultural exchange. Over 80 students from more than 30 nations attend the summer program every year. The diverse student body creates ideal conditions for intercultural and social learning.
The European Studies courses are held in English and focus on Europe and the European Union. They cover political, economic, and legal, but also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transformations the continent is currently undergoing. Students will study both the processes within the various institutions as well as the goals of the EU as a whole. In addition to that German courses are offered on four levels of proficiency (A1, A2, B1, and B2).
The faculty consists of 16 professors devoted to the International Summer Program. They are carefully chosen for their expertise and their motivation to teach international students.
